Commitment:All players are expected to be at all practices and games. Practice times and length varies by grade. Missing practice is detrimental to the players development and hinders team growth. Playing time at all levels is dependent on effort in practice. It is not realistic to give significant playing time to a player who does not attend practice. Player Philosophy:The KGBA has different philosophies at different grade levels. For example,
in 5th grade we play to develop skills and gain experience. By the 7th grade
we play to be competitive. Practice at all levels emphasize learning basic
basketball skills and game knowledge. Players:Academics are a priority. Be on time for all practices & games. Come
prepared to learn & work hard. Be respectful of your parents, coaches,
teammates, officials & opponents. No jewelry is allowed on the court. Respect
the facilities we practice & play in, it is a privilege to be there & we are
responsible for any damage. Report any injuries to your coach. If you cannot
attend a practice or game, call your coach. Most importantly, never quit &
always have fun. Coaching:Coaching is done by volunteer parents and community members at all levels. Coaches are appointed by the KGBA and encouraged to have an assistant. Whenever possible we try to have a non-parent head coach at the higher levels. If a concern arises, contact the coach first then the KGBA if a solution is not reached. Do not confront a coach in public. Tournaments:Tournament games are generally Friday evening, Saturday & Sunday.
Tournaments will vary from 3 to 7 games. We try to limit travel to within a
one hour drive. The players are responsible for their own transportation. At
the younger levels, one day tournaments are scheduled as often as possible. Parents:Be respectful of the team, coaches, officials and opponents. Be sportsman
like at all times, cheer in a positive manner. You are encouraged & welcome to
attend and observe any practice at any time. Raise any concerns early, you may
not always agree with the coach. Most coaching decisions are based on the
practice activities that happened prior to the games. Volunteering for the
KGBA tournament and fundraisers are required. Most importantly,
support the entire team as you are their biggest fans. Coaches:Be respectful of your players, parents, opponents & officials. Learn the
game & teach your players. You are the model of sportsmanship for your team.
Be prepared for practices & games. Communicate with players & parents. Most
importantly, remember they are children. Thank you for supporting your daughters interest in girls basketball.
